Manage your project portfolio and manage your grants with Salesforce: The complete guide for Foundations and NGOs

The complete guide for Foundations and NGOs: manage your project portfolio and manage your grants with Salesforce.

Foundations and NGOs play a crucial role in society by supporting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and contributing to improving our lives. To carry out their mission, these organizations must effectively manage their project portfolios and the grants they award. This can be managed in Salesforce. A powerful range of such Salesforce solutions exists, here is a guide to these solutions. All such options enable foundations and NGOs to centralize their data, streamline their processes, report on outcomes and maximize their impact.

4 Salesforce Solutions for Portfolio and Grant Management

Salesforce offers several solutions adapted to the needs of foundations and NGOs in terms of portfolio management and grants. Here’s an overview of the four main options:

1. Salesforce Nonprofit Cloud for Grantmaking (The “brand new” Non Profit Cloud)

Launched in 2023, Salesforce Nonprofit Cloud for Grantmaking is a Salesforce Industries-based solution designed specifically for grants management. It offers a comprehensive set of features, including:

  • Management of grant applications: Creation of online forms, collection and evaluation of requests, monitoring of the approval process

  • Grantseeker and Grantee Experiences: smooth collaboration with Grantseekers

  • Budget management: Manage grantee budget proposals through outbound and inbound interfaces and collect post award budget progress through a detailed grantee budget UI

  • Integration with other Salesforce solutions: Seamless integration with other Salesforce solutions, such as Salesforce CRM and Salesforce Marketing Cloud or Non Profit Cloud Fundraising

Nonprofit Cloud for Grantmaking is a scalable and customizable solution that can adapt to the specific needs of each foundation and NGO. It is accessible via Salesforce Industries licenses. This is is the area where Salesforce is investing it’s engineering budget.

2. Outbound Funds Module (OFM)

Outbound Funds Module (OFM) is a free, open-source solution designed for outbound funds management that you can install in your Salesforce org. It offers a basic data model for grant and project management, as well as reporting and tracking capabilities. OFM is a simple and affordable solution that can be adapted to the needs of small foundations and NGOs.

You can install this package from this link.

This is a great solution to get started, it offers basic functionality which – most often – needs to be improved through customization.

3. Grants Management (version still being sold by Salesforce but will eventually be replaced by Non Profit Cloud)

Grants Management is a Salesforce paid solution that combines OFM with a portal Grantseekers and additional features. It offers a more comprehensive set of features than OFM, including:

  • Portal for Grantseekers/Grantees: Allows to submit grant applications online, track the status of their applications and interact/collaborate with Grantseekers/Grantees

  • Manage Disbursements, Grant Applications, and milestones/requirements for grantees

  • Useful and relevant option for clients already using Salesforce elsewhere, i.e. Salesforce for fundraising

Grants Management is a more robust solution than OFM, but it is also more expensive. It is accessible via Salesforce Managed Packages.

4. Amp Impact

Amp Impact is a solution provided by Salesforce independent software vendor (ISV) Vera Solutions. It offers a comprehensive data model and relevant automation for portfolio and grants management. Amp Impact is a customizable solution that can be adapted to the specific needs of foundations and NGOs of all sizes.

  • Streamline the full grant-making lifecycle on a single platform

  • Monitoring & Evaluation: Centralize beneficiary data, indicator management, logframes, and reporting to inform decision-making

  • Program Management: Capture results, drive accountability, and improve delivery across your portfolio of programs and projects

  • Grant Management: Streamline the grantmaking process and measure the impact

Amp Impact offers great customer support and strong domain expertise, they are an established player in this niche and have a long list of customer references.

Choose the Salesforce solution that suits your needs

Choosing the best Salesforce solution for your needs depends on several factors, such as the size of your organization, your budget, your feature needs, and your technical expertise. Here are some key points to consider when making your choice:

  • Organization size: If you are a small foundation or NGO, OFM may be a sufficient solution. Nonprofit Cloud for Grantmaking or Amp Impact may be a better fit for more complex organizations.

  • Budget: OFM is a free solution, while other solutions are paid. The cost of each solution varies depending on the size of your organization and the features you choose, plus the amount of customization required.

  • Feature requirements: Identify the features you need to effectively manage your project portfolio and grants. Compare the features of each solution to choose the one that best suits your needs.

  • Technical expertise: If you have limited technical expertise, you may want to choose a partner having relevant expertise in this area with projects involving these tools. Apsynergy is a leading Salesforce partner with relevant experience in this area. Fondation des Femmes, Secours Catholique and CCFD are leading Foundations and NGOs that Apsynergy has partnered with over the years.

World Tour Paris 2023, the must-attend Salesforce event

Apsynergy attends to World Tour Paris 2023, the must-attend Salesforce convention, which will take place on May 16th at Paris Expo.

This 2023 Salesforce World Tour Paris edition promises to be rich and inspiring, with conferences, demos, networking, workshops and exchanges of ideas, around a large spectrum of Salesforce topics driven, among others, by the French Trailblazers Community! It is a golden opportunity to explore a part of the annual 1500 Salesforce innovations and to exchange with peers within the Salesforce ecosystem.

Einstein GTP, Salesforce’s Artificial Intelligence

For Apsynergy, it is also a fantastic opportunity to learn how to take advantage of Einstein GPT, Salesforce’s artificial intelligence, which generates over 80 billion predictions every day in many areas, such as sales, customer service, marketing or online commerce.

According to Marco Casalaina, Vice President Of Products and General Manager of Einstein,The pandemic forced companies to invest in the technologies that quickly add value. Einstein does exactly this by working invisibly behind the scenes to predict customer behavior and preferences

As companies are constantly looking for new opportunities to nurture their growth and develop their projects, Einstein GPT, Salesforce’s Artificial Intelligence, will undoubtedly be the center of all the attention during this Salesforce Convention!

Einstein for Nonprofits, Salesforce’s Artificial Intelligence for NGOs

As data-driven management expands across all industries, nonprofit organisations also need to be ready, in order to meet the challenges and to lay the foundation of a data-driven success story in the coming years.

In this way, Einstein for Nonprofits enables NGOs, associations and foundations, to deliver smarter and more personalised experiences to their donors: by using AI for their fundraising campaigns, they will be more efficient.

As Einstein is natively integrated in the Salesforce platform, it provides relevant information, predicts future donations and also identifies the best next steps. Einstein for Nonprofits predicts the likelihood of becoming a monthly donor, the likelihood of becoming a new donor and the likelihood of becoming a major donor.

Einstein for Nonprofits as a growth lever for fundraising

The creation of a donor journey is a fundamental point in the transition to digital marketing and therefore represents a key issue for marketers from all kinds of organisations, both for profit and nonprofit, whose main priorities are Return On Investment.

With Einstein for Nonprofits’ Datorama reports, it becomes easy to analyse, visualise and report on email, mobile and journey performance, all within the Salesforce Marketing Cloud. As a result, marketers can increasingly rely on trustworthy data when engaging with the people who support their organisation.

Einstein for Nonprofits
is a key tool for fundraisers, who want to take full advantage of artificial intelligence (AI), in order to better understand their donors and set a data-driven management approach:

  • Behavioral analysis and global trends prediction, to create a stronger segmentation strategy.
  • CRM data aligning with accounting systems, to provide more transparency to fundraising & financial teams.
  • Data sources unification, to ensure reliability in sharing information between departments.

Implementation of new technologies, adaptation of external/virtual events and control of costs/expenses are major concerns for companies & non-profit organisations.

Apsynergy is a leading independent certified Salesforce Consulting Partner for over 10 years, working with global IT companies & major Nonprofit organisations (associations, foundations, NGOs). With a solid worldwide team of technical experts & consultants, Apsynergy provides in-depth project management services and high value-added Salesforce development, in order to meet the whole spectrum of needs, for organisations of all sizes.

Apsynergy announces RoseUp as a new client on Salesforce.org

RoseUp relies on Apsynergy to optimise its tax receipts management on Salesforce Nonprofit Success Pack
Apsynergy's new client on Nonprofit Success Pack: RoseUp

Two friends, the journalist Céline Lis Raoux and Communication Manager Céline Dupré, both driven by a common goal to help and support women with all types of cancer in their daily lives, started RoseUp in 2011.

RoseUp’s goals are to inform, support and defend the rights of women affected by cancer, specifically :

  • Rose magazine: first women’s magazine for women affected by cancer (180.000 copies, twice a year).
  • The roseup.fr website: articles, experts interviews, testimonials, media reports, webinars et workshops.
  • Social networks: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn.
  • Maisons RoseUp: places to live and share between home and hospital, offering free support workshops in an harmonised setting and in the city center.
  • Online on M@ Maison RoseUp: individual support.
  • Specific programmes such as Rose Coaching Emploi: preparing to return to work, in particular entrepreneurship.

For more than 10 years : “RoseUp stands up for the rights of women affected by cancer and advocates to facilitate access to bank loans for all persons affected by cancer”, with the right to be forgotten after 5 years. RoseUp also pushes the agenda on access and payment to medical treatment with government authorities.

It was after the health crisis in 2020 that Kristina Hruska, the association’s Web Project Manager, enrolled in Apsynergy’s free distance learning session “Salesforce for Nonprofits: Discovery and Configuration“, with the aim of developing her skills on Salesforce’s Nonprofit Cloud.

Nonprofit Cloud is essentially based on the Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP), an open-source application with a standard data architecture, including pre-built membership and donor management systems, to improve programme reach and effectiveness. This flexible application allows any non-profit organisation to be more efficient and to better interact with its donors.

At the end of this free Salesforce training “Salesforce for nonprofits: Discover and Configure” created and delivered by Apsynergy, a major independent Salesforce Nonprofit partner in France, Kristina, as the other participants, had implemented their own tailor-made Salesforce.org instance, with the help of Apsynergy Learning experts and certified Salesforce trainers:

  • 09.00-09.30 Welcome
  • 09.30-10.30 Presentation of Salesforce.org / Nonprofit Success Pack
  • 10:30-11.00 Presentation of Apsynergy + Use cases/Success Stories
  • 11.00-11.10 Coffee Break
  • 11.10-13.00 Introduction et configuration
  • 13.00-14.00 Lunch break
  • 14.00-15.30 Training/Configurations 1: Programme Management Basics
  • 15.30-15.45 Coffee Break
  • 15.45-18.00 Training/Configurations 2: Fundraising and volunteers management

Following this first meeting, their paths crossed again at the Salesforce.org Customers Unite Paris 2022 event, during which Kristina expressed RoseUp’s needs, regarding the improvement of tax receipts through Salesforce. Like many other associations, the centralisation of the management of tax receipts is a cornerstone of Salesforce CRM for Nonprofits, as it allows to manage tax receipts in an optimal and sequential way, whatever the channel may be: donation pages, phone calls, donations via wire transfer, street marketing, sms campaigns, email marketing etc.

We are particularly pleased to be associated with RoseUp, to add to the growing list of non-profit organisations we work with, such as L214, la Fondation des femmes and Wordskills France.
